BACK | A PUPPETS LIFE | | DIRECTOR | Samy Challah | | YEAR | --- | | STATUS | development | | SYNOPSIS | In this episodic drama, the film’s main protagonists are embodied by puppets with articulated mouths. Filming on location rather than a studio soundstage will create a fresh look and distinctive aesthetic, adding to the film's visual appeal.
The main story tells of a young Greek man who leaves his native country and sets out for Germany in search of his father, whom he had believed dead. His quest takes him to the "Town of Lost Souls," which had once been inhabited by many numerous immigrants, or Gastarbeiter ("guest workers"). Many years ago, it had been a thriving town and its people prosperous. Then its fortunes changed and many workers lost their jobs. The young people all moved away to the cities, and the only ones remaining today are a few “ghostly souls.”
